East Neuk Lighthouse is a Christian charity rooted in the heart of the East Neuk of Fife. Since 2008, we have worked to relieve poverty through practical support, inclusive community engagement, and intentional relationship-building with those most in need. Our work is based on the belief that faith is best expressed through service, and that lives can be transformed when love, dignity, and hope are offered freely.

The Local Need - The East Neuk of Fife appears to be a prosperous area, popular with tourists. But behind the pretty harbours and chip shops there are the kinds of problems typical of rural and coastal areas. Job opportunities are low, transport links are poor, and family breakup leaves many mothers and grandmothers in sole care of vulnerable young children. The educational attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers is persistent and the root of this is children’s ability to read. Addressing this is one of our core purposes.

Our Beneficiaries - We focus our support on those disadvantaged children (aged 5 to 18) and their families. At the head of these families are lone-parents/carers - and often a kinship carer - with the financial and isolation pressures that this brings. Many of these residents have their own early childhood trauma to deal with, and our work is vital in helping to disrupt the cycle for their children by encouraging their learning journey. Another area of growing demand is families with children diagnosed with additional support needs.
